The heirs of those who survived the Chernobyl tragedy in 1986, Now they are trying to collect and preserve memories of more than 30 years ago. And urge, in particular, residents of Poliske city to share it on a open site.
According to project participants, everyone knows about the tragedy, which occurred in Chernobyl, many have heard of Pripyat, but Poliske remains an unknown point on the map of the 1986 tragedy. This city is 80 km from Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, injured in an explosion. Despite poor health of the inhabitants, an increase in the incidence rate due to radiation background, the city continued to live its usual life for another 13 years. Only in 1999 Poliske was evacuated, closed and forgot about it until 2019.
This story began with a short film.”Poliske: Ghost City Identity“, filmed by Ukrainian documentaries. Using archival documents and voiceover, highlighting an abandoned city with spotlights of drones, the film crew pulled out the truth about the city, which was evacuated 13 years after disaster.
And then the idea came up – to create an identity for an empty city. To dramatize what happened. People lived in Poliske, and then it became a ghost place. A logo appeared to remind of this. Having gained symbolism, the city seemed to have returned from nowhere.
The corporate identity of the abandoned city based on the play of light and shadow. Light is a wonderful metaphor for truth. Like the truth, light sometimes irritates the eyes, but it is he who makes the secret manifest, helping to see more.Slightly the veil opens and Illuminates dark corners. This identity uses a special font, developed on the basis of typography and font composition requirements of the time.
As part of the project, sound clips were recorded, based on the echo of an abandoned city. The final point was Theotherchornobyl.in.ua/site. He not only recreates Poliske in a digital environment. The project has a more ambitious goal – to try to find out how many actually were and are victims of the Chernobyl accident. Therefore, the site may contain not only former residents of Poliske, but also all people from different parts of the world who have suffered from the disaster. Of course, you can celebrate relatives, friends and relatives.
“The creators of the film “Poliske: Ghost City Identity”, inspired us to come up with the idea of a project on the topic of Chernobyl. First, an identity was created for Poliske, and then we are: “Okay, maybe this will be the beginning of something more” and decided that the project could be an impetus to try to find out the true number of victims.
In general, it is completely in the style of Saatchi & Saatchi Ukraine, to do things that can change the world and the people around. There is a problem of hiding information even now, not to mention the times when information about the Chernobyl explosion could be covered with one party call. Therefore, the main goal, probably, is to have more truth in the world. So, the goal is ambitious, it is, frankly, elusive, but why not. This is interesting, one of the participants told UA-Times. – In general, we have plans to continue to implement projects that can change the world. That’s pathetic, but it’s a big goal for which we want to work in advertising. “
There are still few stories on the site about what happened in Exclusion Zone after Chernobyl disaster. The organizers hope that in a year or two they will have a lot of material that can be transformed into some new project. “We do not displace functions of statistical institutions and do not pretend to be mathematical precision. This is a symbolic project to emphasize – the truth always follows from dark into the light,” -project participant said.
