For six months, counterintelligence agents of the Ukrainian Security Service have identified and blocked six channels of illegal naturalization in EU countries, as well as illegal legalization of foreigners in Ukraine. They came primarily from countries of so-called “migration risk “.
According to SBU report, special services operatives prevented the illegal obtaining of EU passports by more than two thousand people from among citizens of the Russian Federation, Belarus, Moldova, residents of the so-called Transnistria, ORDLO and others.
The service exposed more than 40 foreign citizens involved in illegal transactions for issuing passports of EU countries.
Also for the activity contradicting to Vienna Convention on Consular Relations two foreign diplomats were decided to terminate their mandates.
Also, members of an organized criminal group were suspected, who were engaged in illegal transportation of immigrants from Central Asia to Ukraine.
SBU found that they suspected of organizing the transaction were four residents of Luhansk region and several citizens of the Russian Federation. According to investigators, they transported customers in transit from Russia to Ukraine outside the checkpoints and received 700 US dollars for this.
Authorities blocked the scheme in January 2020, detaining four illegal immigrants and two alleged members of the group.
Now the SBU has identified all the possible participants in the illegal scheme and informed them of the suspicion of an offense as part of an organized criminal group. Such activity is punishable according to Part 3 of Art. 332 (illegal transfer of persons across the state border of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The exposure of the scheme was carried out under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor’s office of the Luhansk region.
