The Security Service of Ukraine terminates the activities of persons spreading rumors and fake information on Internet about spread of COVID-19 in Ukraine.
In connection with the introduction of a number of restrictive measures to prevent the spread of disease and minimize its consequences, separatism propagandists have also intensified their activities. Taking advantage of the situation, attackers raise panic and stimulate among citizens, try to discredit authorities, and call for violation of constitutional system, SBU cybersecurity experts noted.
According to SBU’s website, we discontinued one of such Internet provocateurs in Odessa. He not only spread false information about the coronavirus, but also published materials calling for a change in the territorial borders and border of Ukraine. And this is a criminal offense under Art. 110 (encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
In the framework of open criminal proceedings, the provocateur was announced to suspect. The issue of applying restrictive measures is being addressed. Over past few days, the service, along with the national police, brought to administrative responsibility for manipulations and attempts to destabilize the public situation 5 more people in Chernivtsi and Luhansk regions.
In addition, SBU records the emergence of a large number of fake information platforms and appearance of fake publications in Russian language. measures are being taken to block their activities and to hold provocateurs accountable.
SBU calls on citizen, not to trust information from unverified sources and not to disseminate it. Up-to-date data on the current situation of the spread of coronavirus are available on official pages of Health Ministry and other government agencies.
