Andriy Taran was born March 4, 1955 is a Ukrainian military and statesman, lieutenant general.
He served in the army of the USSR. In the 80s he graduated from the Military Academy of Air Defense of the Ground Forces in Kyiv with a degree in military operations management. He also underwent retraining at the Institute of International Relations of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, the diplomatic service, and the US National University of Defense in Washington. In 2019, he headed the election headquarters of the presidential candidate of the former head of the SBU Igor Smeshko. In the parliamentary elections of 2019, he ran for the list of the party “Strength and Honor” under 24 number, but did not get into parliament.
March 4, 2020 he was appointed Minister of Defense of Ukraine in the government of Denys Shmygal.
